Instructions for Quizzes

Read this at the beginning of the semester, before the first quiz, and again leading up to the final exam

Before you take the first quiz, read all the assignments in Module #1. The quizzes are open-book, open-note, open-Internet. BUT, you only have one hour to complete the quiz and you can't go backwards through the questions. Therefore, it is important that you read through everything first, so you'll know where to find the answers to those questions you don't know. So memorize what you can, and look up the few that you will have time for.

Quizzes

It is recommended that you take the quizzes on campus in a computer lab to minimize computer complications. Also, use Internet Explorer as your browser. It is also recommended that you take the first scavenger hunt before taking the first quiz so that you will be used to how these quizzes work (you get 24 hours to compete a scavenger hunt). You only get one question at a time, and cannot return to a previous question.

You can take the quizzes on your own schedule, but you must take them before the deadline for each. It is strong recommended that you do not wait until the final hour to take each quiz. Sometimes technical difficulties (or tornados) get in the way.

Final Exam

There are no review sheets for each of the quizzes. But you will have access to review sheets for the final exam. On the review sheets you will notice that much of the trivial information asked during the scavenger hunts and quizzes has been eliminated.

The final is not open-book and you have 90 minutes to complete it. You must attend the final exam on campus on (for date and time, click here) or make arrangements to have the exam proctored at a different time or in a different location. And be on time to the final.

Study Guides for Final Exam

The final exam is comprehensive. While it is not open-book, you will have access to study guides. Generally, these study guides are enough to help students earn a better grade on the final than they have received on the quizzes. To get the study guides, return to D2L and click on course content. But these will not be made available until all students have completed the quizzes. You will not have access to the quiz questions for the review, but the study guides will include all information that may be asked on the final exam.

The window of opportunity for each quiz is about four weeks. If you miss the deadline, you will not be allowed to make up that quiz and you will lose one letter grade for the class. It is technically impossible to open the quiz back up to delinquent students. THEREFORE, it is recommended that you DO NOT wait until the last day to take each quiz.
